Concept of an Event

An event is a fundemental thing of some sort. YOu can think of it as a possible outcome of some experiment (like throwing a die or turning a randomly chosen card face up).

Events have associated probabilties. The probability of an event A is written as P(A).

The collection of all possible, mutually exclusive events is called the sample space.

Events A and B are mutually exclusive if the occurance of A implies B does not occur, and vice versa. Mutually exclusive events don't overlap in any way.
